The Super Visa lets parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents visit for up to 5 years at a time. It is a multiple-entry visa that can be valid for up to 10 years, and visitors can apply to extend their stay from inside Canada.
The child or grandchild in Canada must invite them in writing and meet a minimum income based on family size (the Low Income Cut-Off, or LICO). Since March 31, 2026, hosts can use either of their two most recent tax years, and in some cases the visiting parent’s income can be counted. The visitor also needs at least $100,000 of medical insurance valid for at least one year, from a Canadian insurer or an approved foreign insurer, and a medical exam.

How long can my parents stay?
Up to 5 years per entry. The border officer decides the exact period at entry, and your parents can apply to extend their stay from inside Canada.
Can parents work in Canada on a Super Visa?
No. The Super Visa is a visitor visa. It does not allow work in Canada.
